How the Environment Affects People?
Humans have always needed to be sensitive to their environment in order to survive, so we are innately aware of it and are drawn to locations that have particular characteristics.
First and foremost, humans have a strong desire for protection and security and actively seek those qualities out in their surroundings. We also seek out physical comforts, such as the proper temperature in a setting. Additionally, we look for a psychologically soothing environment, such as familiar surroundings with just the perfect amount of stimulation.
The Impact of the Environment on People
Social Impact
Interactions between people can be encouraged or discouraged by their surroundings (and the subsequent benefits of social support). For instance, a family may be persuaded to stay and chat with a patient in an enticing setting with cozy chairs and solitude.
Emotional and Behavioral Effects
People’s motivation and behavior can be affected by their environment. For instance, a filthy hallway lined with surplus hospital equipment can tempt staff to leave another item, whereas a clean hallway and enough storage will motivate the team to take the time to put the thing away.
Moods can be affected by the environment. For instance, the outcomes of multiple studies show that brightly lit rooms, both natural and artificial, might enhance health outcomes, including sadness, agitation, and sleep.
